Every year, a whopping number of around 8-9 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean. That’s almost the same as emptying a garbage truck full of plastic every single minute into the ocean, can you believe it?
With all that plastic floating around, marine life is heavily impacted as the plastic debris leads to ingestion, suffocation, and entanglement of thousands of marine species. In other cases, marine wildlife even mistakes the plastic waste for predators and ends up being unable to swim or find food. This leads to starvation endangerment and causes problems with the food chain as well.

While there are many initiatives that work on cleaning the ocean and saving endangered species, it is important for every individual, company, and even government to play their role in saving the planet. For 5 consecutive years, Adidas has been playing its role by not only raising awareness of marine pollution but also encouraging individuals to ‘Run For the Oceans’ and be part of the change.
What is Run For The Oceans?
The campaign, Run For The Oceans, by Adidas encourages individuals to log in their runs starting from May 28th until June 8th promising that for every 10 minutes an individual runs, Adidas will be responsible for removing 1 bottle from the ocean. Imagine how many bottles can be removed, how many species can be saved, and how an individual can have a huge impact on saving the planet, the ocean, and marine species.
