Some people believe that music shouldn’t be censored or limited as everyone is free to present the kind of art they want. The audience also has the liberty to choose whether to consume this genre of art or not. From a mother’s perspective, I’m afraid I can’t agree with that argument. Adults are more experienced when it comes to filtering content; however, children will willingly consume any trending song or movie.
While parents can easily apply parental control on platforms like YouTube and Netflix, it’s never easy to control every single song played on the radio or at parties.
Honestly speaking, Sha’bi and Mahragant tracks have become the most trending genre in Egypt. Going through the lyrics, most of them include inappropriate language that either promotes cursing, highlights a woman’s body in an offensive way, indirectly depicts the relationship between a man and a woman in an abusive one asserting that a woman loves it that way.
It’s obvious that parents should start by themselves if they want kids to not listen to offensive music. We ourselves love to listen to these songs and happily dance to them at weddings. In this article, we list just eight trending songs that include inappropriate lyrics and normalize eccentric relationships between men and women.
