A bride went viral this week for sharing her real story with bullying and fight against beauty standards. Shrouk ElOkda is a 27-year-old engineering student who just got married to the love of her life. Shrouk was born with a hyperpigmentation skin condition, also known as a birthmark, that covers most of her right cheek. The bride shared on social media her story and everyone instantly fell in love with her confidence and inspiring message.
“People sometimes have cruel comments and ask if I’ve been punched in the face or if someone threw acid at me. I’ve been rejected after multiple job interviews because I might scare people,” Shrouk told us about the bullying she faces.
“I always tell myself that what hurts me makes me stronger not weaker and that my condition is better than those of others. I feel beautiful regardless of what bullies think of me. I remind myself that God created us in the best version of ourselves,” the inspiring lady continued.
“I met the love of my life at a time where everything felt hopeless. We first met at University, he is a pharmacy student and we used to take the same bus. Just like any other couple, we had our differences but he always showed me that my birthmark never mattered to him. We got engaged five years later,” she told us about her accepting husband.
Shrouk further explained that being contempt with what God gave you is the key to self-confidence and self-love, adding that it’s a difficult balance. We absolutely love our gorgeous bride. A simple post about a personal struggle or a fight against a beauty stigma can help millions of people out there. Keep on rocking, Shrouk.
