‘Case 404’ is a new form of Drama entering the Arab media for the first time. The series – which will be released in 2021 – not only focuses on real daily problems that people with special abilities face but also consists of a cast of 25 actors and actresses with special abilities.
This is the first time in the Middle East and Arabic Media for most of the cast to be played by actors of special determination. It is also the first time for an entire story-line and production to bring forward and discuss the bullying, unfairness, and inequality the protagonists face on a daily basis.
In the video below, producer, Mohamed El Ansary, explains the importance of this series and how it revolves around real people and the struggles that the special abilities community faces. Instead of just struggling in a parallel universe, it is time to bring forward life from the perspective of those with different abilities.
The screenplay writer, Ramez Abbas, suffers from hearing problems that have created numerous obstacles in his career to the extent that he couldn’t find a job in the media until now. ‘Case 404’ gave Abbas the space to express common obstacles and struggles he, as well as many others just like him, face regularly.
Through this script and series, the cast raise awareness on inclusion, the struggles of life with disabilities, as well as how we can try to help, acknowledge, and give people with disabilities the chances and opportunities they deserve.
This is an excellent step in the history of Arabic media and we hope that it continues to bring up important topics and be the voice of those who need it the most.
