When your baby is born, it’s normal to be overwhelmed as there’s so much to do and so much to take care of. One of the most important things to keep track of is your baby’s vaccine schedule. While it is difficult to remember the vaccine schedule, we’re here to help you understand when your baby should be getting their vaccines.
In the video below, Dr. Tamer El Sherbiny from Kiddy Clinic explains the different vaccines your child should be getting as well as the age they should be getting them at:
One week after the baby is born
The first vaccine should occur one week after your baby is born. During this visit, the baby’s thyroid glands are checked and if everything is in order, they are given the following vaccines:
- Tuberculosis vaccination
- Polio oral vaccine (1st dose)
- Hepatitis B
After that, the baby starts taking the combined vaccination against 6 diseases in one shot known as HEXAXIM. In the above video, Dr. Tamer El sherbiny explains the advantage of taking this vaccine rather than the one offered by the Ministry of Health. This occurs under the following schedule:
2 months old baby:
- DPT (Diphtheria, pertussis, and tenanus)
- Hepatitis B
- Haemophilus influenza
- Polio (IPV)
4 months old baby:
- DPT (Diphtheria, pertussis, and tenanus)
- Hepatitis B
- Haemophilus influenza
- Polio (IPV)
6 months old baby:
- DPT (Diphtheria, pertussis, and tenanus)
- Hepatitis B
- Haemophilus influenza
- Polio (IPV)
Before your baby turns one:
- Pneumococcal polysaccharide
- Flu shot
18 months old baby:
- DPT (diphtheria, pertussis, and tenanus)
- Hepatitis B
- Haemophilus influenza
- Polio (IPV)
