On Sunday night, an Egyptian girl, Basma, posted a video crying as she recounted the horrible events she had experienced at Cairo Airport.
Basma and her friends were waiting for their bags after returning from Lebanon, as they noticed an employee at the airport taking photos of her back side. Fuming at the audacity and ill-minded act, Basma and her friends confronted the employee who completely denied the accusations.
According to Basma’s video, after refusing to show them his phone and prove his innocence, she called for security who took them into an office to handle the situation.

As the security inspected the employee’s phone, they found inappropriate photos of Basma taken as well as countless other girls. But, all the security did was pass around the phone from one person to another exposing the photos and getting mad at Basma for being upset!
Fuming with rage and disappointment, Basma turns to social media to explain what had just happened and the amount of support she receives is indescribable. Watch the video that has almost 2 million views above to get the details of the whole story.

Luckily, Basma gets the aid of the Egyptian authorities at the airport, and the officers not only stand up for her and her rights but dismiss the employee from the airport and take him away in handcuffs. Basma filed a case against him and an investigation will be conducted.

So, what should you do if you’re harassed, abused, or subjected to any kind of assault in order to preserve your rights?
- You need to head to the closest police station and file a complaint against the harasser as soon as the incident occurs. If you wait, you could risk giving up your rights.
- It is very important to force your harasser to go to the station either by calling the police or getting the aid of those around you to take him to the station. Without the harasser’s name and ID being recognized, there is no way of arresting them and could lead to the case being dismissed.
- Here’s what the process will look like:
-
- A statement will be submitted by the victim and filed to the public prosecution.
- The general prosecution will summon the harasser and take his/her statement.
- An investigation will be opened and then the public prosecution will call for a hearing if there is enough evidence.
-
What is considered sufficient evidence?
- A statement from the victim
- A statement from the harasser (name and ID need to be stated)
- A statement from any witnesses if present.
- A doctor’s report will be needed for rape incidents.
