Last October, an international school shut down after a student tested positive for COVID-19. All mothers went into panic mode and were extremely worried about the consequences. Parents were cautious, followed social distancing guidelines, and were keeping their kids and families safe at home.

I am a teacher and my school management gave clear instructions not to be lenient with any cold or flu symptom whether it is COVID-19 or not. As a mother, I would always keep my son home when he had any cold/flu symptoms because I simply did not want to harm any of the students around him who would end up staying home with their working mothers.
What has now startled me is that there are COVID-19 positive parents who are sending their kids to school normally, and the school management would find out by coincidence the parents’ diagnosis. How could someone in their straight mind even do that? Do they not realize how many people they are putting at risk? Do they know that teachers who are risking their lives daily have families too?

What shocks me is how arrogant people are acting with the current situation. This is a pandemic that has claimed the lives of over 1.3 million people worldwide. I understand that the situation was tough with the lockdown and online schooling, but we need to act wisely and think of the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff who will be overwhelmed if the numbers increase again.
Dear parents,
PLEASE keep your kids home when they are sick. Even if you are a working mom, arrange for a family member to stay with them or ask to work from home. Think of your child’s classmates and teachers. Think of their families. Any flu-like symptom should be considered a COVID-19 symptom until proven otherwise.
If you or any family member show any symptoms of Covid-19 or test positive, please keep your kids home. Inform your school management, so they can take their precautionary measures. And it goes without saying, keep your kids home until you are sure that neither you nor anyone in your household is a carrier.
As teachers, we don’t wish for schools to shut down again, and believe me neither do the students; they miss being in school and with their friends. If you send your kids to school while sick, and the rest of their classmates get sick too, the situation will spiral out of control.

It is already very tough on us to keep emphasizing to the kids the importance of keeping a distance between each other, keeping their masks on, and constantly asking them to sanitize or wash their hands because of the pandemic. We really hope we don’t see empty hallways, classrooms, and desks again.
