For the past two months, every single parent across the globe has turned into a teacher. It might have been cute at first, but now it is becoming unrealistic. There are parents who lack teaching skills, others who can’t understand foreign languages, moms who are still working during the pandemic and don’t have enough time, parents with more than two kids, schools that just send tasks via emails and expect parents to takeover, and so much more.

News is circulating that schools and nurseries might still be closed next semester. According to a statement released by The Ministry of Health, the reopening guideline and protocol entail that certain public venues and institutions will not open during the COVID-19 pandemic due to the high risk of infection. These places include universities, schools, nurseries, restaurants, movie theatres, cafes, and gyms.
The WHO is expecting that co-existence with the virus might be the only solution, as the virus will not go away anytime soon. That brings us back to schools. The statements clearly indicate that schools will not be operating next semester, even if students attend 2-3 days weekly. Yet, schools are demanding full fees from parents.

Paying the teaching staff’s salaries is non-negotiable, we can say that. Yet, you cannot expect a parent to pay full fees to stay home and take over completely. If schools are empty and non-operating, there must be expenses that have been saved and can cover salaries.
This is the time of the year when parents pay the next year’s first installment. Parents are claiming on social media communities that schools are threatening that children will lose their spots if they don’t pay the full fees. Yet, many parents have lost their jobs with no financial compensations. Besides, they are not getting the full service, so why pay the full fees?
This is a major issue specifically for parents of international schools who pay a fortune, yet their children are only receiving emails during virtual learning. Schools and parents need to meet halfway.
