Sexual harassment in Egypt is a huge topic that has just recently started to come to light. Unfortunately, every woman in Egypt has experienced some sort of sexual harassment, be it verbal or physical. The focus on sexual harassment in Egypt for many years has been on women; what they wear, where they were going, and why they put themselves in a situation to be sexually harassed in the first place. In fact, sexual harassment has led to victim-blaming countless times, making most women too afraid to speak up.
Because of the society we live in, most men have been raised normalizing some sort of harassment and resorting to victim-blaming to get themselves off the hook. However, with women speaking up and pointing fingers, it is about time that men are held accountable for their actions.
Mina Thabet, the founder of the Fathership blog, addresses parents and holds them responsible for raising men to become sexual harassers. In the video below, Thabet talks about all the things that a father figure needs to be aware of or else they will be raising a sexual harasser.
While Thabet expresses the father’s role towards their sons, he also highlights the importance of caring for their daughters. In the video below, Thabet shares how a daughter can resort to finding attention from the opposite sex to make up for the lack of attention from her father. He also explains the role of the father towards his daughter when it comes to giving her enough love and making sure she understands the framework of the society she lives in.
A father figure can help raise men who respect women as well as women who know how to take care of themselves and understand the dynamics of the society we live in. Watch Thabet’s videos and listen to his important message to all fathers.
