Only a mother can understand the hassle of having an allergic kid at home. When a child is suffering from any type of allergy, this results in sleepless nights for both the mom and the child, a grumpy mood, and difficulty in practicing daily activities.
Two common irritating allergies in children are hay fever (allergic rhinitis) and hives (urticaria). Telfast syrup can be used starting six months of age for relieving urticaria symptoms and starting two years for hay fever symptoms.
Hay fever, also called allergic rhinitis, is a common seasonal allergy that causes cold-like signs and symptoms. Unlike a cold, hay fever isn’t caused by a virus, it’s caused by an allergic response to outdoor or indoor allergens. Allergic rhinitis affects performance at school due to its annoying symptoms.
- Runny nose and nasal congestion without fever
- Watery itchy red eyes
- Itchy nose, the roof of the mouth, or throat
- Swollen blue-colored skin under the eyes
- Postnasal discharges
- Pet dander
- Spores from indoor and outdoor fungi and molds
In a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical efficacy study involving 821 patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis, Telfast was found to be significantly superior to placebo in relieving symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis after 24 hours including sneezing, rhinorrhea, itchy nose, itchy red watery eyes, and nasal congestion. Telfast relieves hay fever symptoms starting two years of age.
Urticaria or hives is an allergic reaction in which red, itchy, and swollen areas show up on the skin. It might happen due to eating a certain food or taking certain medications. Although any child can get hives, children with allergies are at greater risk. Hives can show up all over the body or just on one part of the body.
Although the most common cause of hives in children is virus-induced and happens shortly after an illness, there are some other factors that might cause urticaria like:
- Some types of food like eggs and peanuts.
- Some medicines like penicillin and aspirin.
