Coming out of quarantine and lockdown, we realized we had so many luxuries that we often took for granted. One thing I myself learned to appreciate was my monthly visit to the nail salon to get my manicure and pedicure done.
Because going to the nail salon is considered high risk, with all the housework, my nails were getting out of shape. I decided it was time for me to do my research and figure out ways to take care of my nails at home. It was a bit confusing at first, because never in my life did I attempt to do any nail care at home. But with a bit of research and determination, I found great ways and tips to take care of my nails at home.
Here are a few tips to take care of your nails at home:
- Use proper hygiene
- Stay away from your cuticles
- Use lemon as a strengthener
- Use almond oil as a softener
Use proper hygiene
Keeping your nails dry and clean is very important to avoid bacteria from growing under your nails. Use a nail brush with soap to clean your nails on a daily basis. Using gloves while doing the dishes is important because prolonged exposure to water and dishwashing detergent will definitely damage your nails.
Stay away from your cuticles
As tempting as it may get to cut your cuticles, if you aren’t a professional, you can ruin your nails by cutting your cuticles the wrong way leading to bacterial and fungal infections.
Use lemon to strengthen your nails
Overusing nail polish and prolonged usage of acrylic nails may cause your nails to be stained and weak and cause breakage. Rubbing lemon or soaking your nails in lemon juice will work like magic and remove any stains on your nails and will certainly strengthen your nails.
Almond oil for softness
If your nails are hard due to the usage of harsh chemicals or your daily housework, try soaking your nails in almond oil for five to ten minutes and watch the results of beautifully soft nails within a few weeks.
