It’s not every day that a school focuses on enhancing their students’ life skills and preparing them for real-world jobs rather than just excelling at an exam. But that’s just one of the unique characteristics that make Imperial College Egypt school stand out.
Imperial College Egypt (ICE) encourages its students to gain 21st-century skills through the STEM program. What really makes it unique is that students develop a solid knowledge base that enhances their interest and expertise in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This gives students a huge advantage and prepares them for real-world jobs as it strengthens their ability to integrate and apply knowledge and skills.
To help you imagine what kind of projects students will be participating in at ICE, here are just a few designed by the school’s students:
- Building airplanes
- Robots
- Cars with hydraulic lifters
- Skyscrapers
- Hydraulic bridge
- Digital pulse sensor
- Solar cars
- Robotic arm
- Ultrasonic glasses
- Light-activated circuits
From these projects and many others where STEM concepts are applied, the students at ICE will learn important life skills that will be extremely valuable for any job they apply to. These skills include the following:
Creativity
One of the best skills that STEM offers is creativity. Being creative is essential in everyday life and is an asset to any job in the real world. At ICE, students are taught how to look at a problem from a different perspective and find innovative solutions and possibilities.
Problem-solving skills
When a child learns how to be creative, their problem-solving skills are enhanced. Whatever field a child grows up to work in, they will encounter problems that need immediate solutions. The foundation skills a child will learn from STEM projects at ICE is to train the brain to quickly identify problems and find ultimate solutions that require the least time and effort. This is an asset that can be extremely valuable not only in their work-life but in their personal lives as well.
Teamwork
As children collaborate together on projects, they learn real-life skills that teach them how to deal with a team, how to identify each person’s strengths, and how to effectively collaborate within a specific time frame without forcing ideas. Being a good team player and working on projects effectively will prepare students for teamwork, delegation, and effective communication.
Critical thinking
When students apply STEM concepts to the projects they conduct at ICE, they learn how to systematically think through problems, gather information, reason effectively, and creative thinking. This allows them to go through all the possible solutions and come up with the best outcome that is cost, time, and energy-efficient. Critical thinking skills can make a person stand out, add extreme value to any project, and is a skill that is useful in every aspect of a person’s life.

During STEM projects, students learn the engineering required to make a project work. Understanding the mechanism and getting the know-how enables a person to gather skills and knowledge that can be applied to different projects.
While engineering concepts have been taught in numerous ways, the STEM learning method applied at ICE teaches children engineering concepts by doing. Engineering skills help simplify other tasks as the brain quickly identifies processes and solutions.
Leadership

Being a leader isn’t just about being bossy, but a true leader understands how to systematically analyze the different aspects of a project, how to allocate and use the best resources required, as well as organize and assign tasks based on a person’s strengths and weaknesses. With STEM projects, students become exceptional leaders who demonstrate exceptional skills and stand out in the real world.
Analytical skills
Developing analytical skills is by far one of the most important skills needed in today’s world. Students learn how to analyze data, understand its relation to other data or systems, and learn the best method to apply these findings. In a technological world with digital transformation, analytical skills are one of the skills high in demand.
Technological skills
The world is becoming more and more digital each day, and with technological advancements, it is crucial for children to have a strong foundation to constantly use technology in the real world. When a child understands the basics of technology at a young age, their brain is trained to understand technological advancements, apply technology to daily tasks, and keep up with automation.
Real-life jobs that require STEM skills
While these skills are needed for numerous jobs as well as everyday life, here are some of the jobs that your children will excel at:
- Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Construction, Electrical)
- Astronomy
- Programing and developing
- Designing
- Scientific work
- Data analysis
- Project management
