Sexual harassment is a common problem that many women face on a regular basis in Egypt. In fact, almost 8 in every 10 women in Egypt have been subjected to harassment, be it verbal, non-verbal, or physical sexual harassment. Because of the magnitude of the situation, women are left with mental health issues and traumas that can impact their entire lives.

Street harassment – L’Oreal Paris
To create a healthy and supportive environment for the community, L’Oreal Paris participated in the 9th Edition of the Cairo Marathon to STAND UP against street harassment on May, 20th. Not only that, but in collaboration with the NGO, Metamen, they offered a STANDUP training for the runners to help them understand how to deal with and respond to street harassment.
This STANDUP training focused on the 5Ds method:
- Distract
- Delegate
- Document
- Direct
- Delay

L’Oreal Paris at Cairo Marathon
When street harassment occurs, many women find themselves not only in shock but also exposed to a whirlwind of emotions in a split second that prevents them from thinking straight and responding in the correct way. With this training, the runners will understand how to respond properly to street harassment and direct them to the actions to take in these situations.
We’re glad to see brands such as L’Oreal work on initiatives to combat the major issue of street harassment and the impact it has on women in a positive, practical, and useful method.
