Omar Samra’s life as a father has always made headlines. Following the tragic death of his wife due to childbirth complications, the first Egyptian to summit Mount Everest has always been public about his experience as a single dad and his journey to recovery. Samra shattered stereotypes when people saw him as a responsible and devoted father to his seven-year-old daughter.
The year 2020 was harsh on Samra after the death of his beloved sister; yet, 2021 seems to be his year as he announces the start of a new life chapter.

Last night, Samra announced his engagement to Mint ElMokadam, founder of Pole Fit Egypt. Every day, tens of people get engaged and married, yet this story remains special. When you’re not lucky enough in your first marriage and the story doesn’t end with a happily-ever-after, you feel like it is the end of your world and that you will never be able to start over. This beautiful relationship gives us hope in new beginnings.

The newly-engaged love birds just launched their couple’s Instagram account Our Pole to Pole. “Society always has an ideal and tries to pressure us towards it, and we think that’s not right. In fact, we think it may even be harmful, to us and to our relationships. The account follows our journeys, Mint and Omar, wherever we intertwine. It celebrates the beautiful moments we spend together, but more importantly, it shares one example of two people who’re attempting to do things differently, highlighting how much they have worked on themselves to get here, and how much more they need to do,” Samra posted on their new Instagram account.
It was the most spot-on description of their love story and society. We tend to view families as stereotypes that add unnecessary restrictions on our emotions. However, Omar and Mint just proved that love conquers all.
