Calculating ovulation is important for anyone trying to get pregnant or even trying to avoid getting pregnant. During ovulation, your body releases an egg from the ovaries to be fertilized by a sperm. This act allows a person to conceive. Ovulation occurs for a very short period in a woman’s menstrual cycle and is the time when she is most fertile.

When a woman is pregnant, her body stops releasing eggs from the ovaries as one of them has already been fertilized. So what happens if you’ve had a miscarriage? A miscarriage resets the menstrual cycle. So, how do you know when you’re ovulating?

A miscarriage usually comes with spotting or bleeding. The first sign of any bleeding is usually considered day 1 of your new menstrual cycle. Because ovulation normally occurs 2 weeks within your cycle, you can usually start calculating ovulation after 14 days from the first day of your menstrual cycle. However, it could take a few months for a menstrual cycle to return back to its usual pattern after a miscarriage.
According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, if a miscarriage occurs within the first trimester, a woman can start ovulating almost two weeks after a miscarriage.
Just remember that a miscarriage can affect your physical, mental, and emotional well-being making it more difficult to try and get pregnant straight away. Be sure to take your time, recover from the impact of having a miscarriage, and do not stress yourself out. Only start trying to conceive again when you feel you’re emotionally and physically ready.
