At 5 weeks, your body will not show much difference in your appearance, especially when it comes to your belly. However, on the inside, a lot is happening. At 5-weeks, your baby’s nervous system is developing and the brain and spinal cord are starting to form. Your baby’s heart will start to beat around this time, too.
Your baby is around 2 mm long and is about the size of a sesame seed. During this week, the face starts to form and a very tiny nose and little eyes will start to take shape.
Pregnancy checklist at 5-weeks pregnant
During your 5th week, you’ll definitely know that you’re pregnant as you would have missed a period by now. So, if you’ve taken a pregnancy test and found it positive, start by rejoicing and then add these to your checklist:
- Schedule an appointment with your OB
- Start taking 400 mg of folic acid until your 12th week of pregnancy
- Take prenatal vitamins
- Avoid substances that could cause harm to your baby such as smoking, drugs and alcohol
- Start adding healthy food to your diet
