Last week, the College Board announced the cancellation of the upcoming SAT examination due to the leakage of the exams the day before the test.
However, today, the College Board announced that the SAT and SAT Subject Test administrations will no longer be available in Egypt for the upcoming academic year and will be cancelled until June 2021.
While securing the SAT exams has been an ongoing issue in Egypt for the past few years, it is unfair, unprofessional and completely disastrous for the College Board to just decide to cancel exams all together. It is their job to secure the tests and prevent leakage in order to give the students a fair chance in obtaining the deserved results.
What does this mean for students in American Schools?
The SAT cancellation has put students in American schools’ future at risk. During the previous academic year, the students had to go through a cancellation for the March SAT rounds due to the weather conditions in Egypt causing a problem for the graduating seniors who lost their chance at improving their scores.
However, things only got worse when the College Board cancelled all further examinations for the previous academic year due to the outbreak of coronavirus in an attempt to ensure the safety of the students.
The cancellation of the SAT and SAT Test administration until June 2021 leaves students in American schools unable to sit for the examination for an entire academic year. This has a huge impact on seniors graduating this year and their ability to improve their scores to be able to get accepted in the universities of their dreams.
Not only that, but the cancellation of the SAT tests also puts the entire American system in Egypt in a delicate position as parents are furious and concerned about their children’s future. Knowing that SATs have been cancelled numerous times, many parents will think twice before choosing to educate their children in American schools.
For now, the biggest impact lies on students looking to improve their scores being stuck with the test results they previously got. The past few months have already been stressful for the entire globe, but affecting the students’ future with this announcement has left parents and students in a state of panic.
