Egyptians wait every year for those two heavenly months of summer where they flock to Sahel to enjoy the beach life. For two months during the summer, we forget about pollution and chaos and live a carefree life immersed in the sandy shores and deep blue water of the Mediterranean Sea.
However, this year, residents of Diplo 3 and Stella Sidi Abdel Rahman compounds were shocked to find that the gorgeous blue water has transformed into a dull shade of grey and the beaches are nothing but rocks.
One of Diplo 3 residents, Heba Resk, investigated the situation and claimed that the polluted water was coming from a marina construction site right next to Stella Sidi Abdel Rahman. After reaching out to the Ministry of Environment and filing a complaint, the damage was temporarily fixed. However, a few days ago, the same thing started to happen again.
In the video posted, you can clearly see how polluted the water is and that it is obvious that cement is being dumped into the sea at the construction site. This not only leaves the residents of Stella and Diplo 3 unable to enjoy the beach but also puts the children who take a dip at risk of being harmed by the polluted water.
Many residents complained that their children’s hair and eyes were being harmed by the obvious cement in the sea. Not to mention the hassle of simply taking a dip when you fear breaking a toe because there isn’t a single rock-free spot to stand on.
If this is how the water appears, then what is the impact on marine life and nature? Has the construction site stopped to think about the impact of their damages? Or do we no longer care about the actual nature and damage it so carelessly in order to build man-made and luxurious marinas? Until when will we continue to destroy nature and how do we put a stop to it?
We hope that officials end this catastrophic damage and pollution and take the necessary action.
