We all want our children to eat clean nutritious food, but it seems impossible with all the temptations in Cairo. We keep offering our children healthy food and sometimes force them to eat, and it’s usually useless. What do we do?

You are your children’s role model and you can’t teach them that soda is bad if you’re sipping your can right in front of them. Practice what you preach.
Cook together and eat together

Try to start following healthy habits with your children and always add some fun. Shop for ingredients together, point out the benefits and beauty of seasonal food, get the children involved in the cooking process, then sit together on a table and eat without phones, screens, and other distractions.

If you only have fruits and veggies at home, then your children will only eat healthy. If you have unhealthy foods all over the place, your children will eventually eat junk food.
Get creative

There are many ways to get creative with food:
- Play with cookie cutters and make shapes and faces.
- Hide fruits and vegetables in the food you’re cooking.
- Infuse more colors.
- Combine tastes and let them try new things.
- Start a contest where your children have to make the best healthy dipping.
Use reverse psychology

Send them indirect messages through appreciating a certain type of food, and ask them about their opinions. They tend to follow your lead.
If you think about it, it is not really that difficult to feed our children healthy nutritious food. It’s usually us who are too uncomfortable and refuse to change unhealthy eating habits because we got used to them. Remind yourself that your children’s health is your number one priority, and be determined to change whatever you can to serve their health and well-being, and the rest will most definitely come one step at a time.
