In 2020, travel was not only difficult but was restricted in many countries. However, as the COVID-19 vaccine starts to roll in, many people have asked how the vaccine will affect the future of travel. The main question is: will a vaccine be necessary in order to travel?
By the looks of it, the answer is yes! Many countries have started implementing a new travel rule only allowing travelers entry if they have a vaccine passport.

A vaccine passport is a certificate that acts as digital or paper proof which shows that a traveler is vaccinated against COVID-19, has recently tested negative, or has recovered from the virus and has antibodies. With a vaccine passport or a travel pass, there are certain countries that are allowing entry of travelers holding this documentation and easing the restrictions or removing them together.

- Estonia
- Romania
- Georgia
- Poland
- Lebanon
- Seychelles
- Cyprus
- Greece
- Spain
- Portugal
- Israel

Will a vaccine passport be essential for travel?
While many countries are facilitating travel for those holding a vaccine passport, it is still not a requirement for entry. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) has made its position clear by urging countries to refrain from imposing rules that include having a vaccine in order to travel. Their position is based on the currently limited vaccine availability, the unknown impact of vaccines, and whether they will reduce transmission of the virus or not.
While vaccines may not be a requirement yet, the vaccine passport will allow travelers into certain countries without having to quarantine. It is very likely that other countries and airlines will follow.

Stop calling it vaccine. It is an experimental shot not a vaccine.
