With panic taking over Egypt due to the coronavirus pandemic, an unfortunate trend is starting to surface that is truly heart-breaking. Many pets are being stranded in the streets, homeless, and left to die in fear of their transmission of coronavirus.
This act is not only extremely inhumane and selfish but also completely unnecessary. A virologist and chief of the division of pediatric infectious diseases at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh stated that the virus could not be transmitted from pets to humans and that the idea was absolutely absurd.
Pets should be treated like family members and just like you would never leave your baby in the streets, having the heart to leave your pet to die from hunger or not knowing what will happen to them is extremely brutal.
In an attempt to fight this behavior, many Egyptian actors stood together and circulated a video raising awareness on the issue by taking videos with their pets and reminding Egyptians that pets do not transmit coronavirus.
The CDC also published on their website the following answer in regards to Animals and coronavirus:
There is no reason at this time to think that any animals, including pets, in the United States might be a source of infection with this new coronavirus that causes COVID-19. To date, CDC has not received any reports of pets or other animals becoming sick with COVID-19 in the United States. – CDC
Instead of getting rid of your furry friends, here are a few reasons why pets are your best companions during the coronavirus quarantine:
They’ll smother you with love

With everyone on the verge of a nervous breakdown and feeling trapped and isolated, your pet will shower you with affection and make you feel loved.
They won’t be afraid to touch you

Many family members still practice social distancing even at home in fear of transmitting the virus to one another. However, with a pet, they’ll always be willing to give you a hug, crawl on your lap, or be glued to your side.
They’ll keep you company

Being at home alone during the quarantine can get boring. However, with a pet by your side, you’ll feel like you have the perfect companion who doesn’t lose their temper, freak out, or has the same anxiety the entire world is feeling. All they really want is a bit of attention every now and then and just laying by your side.
They’re not high-maintenance

Having a dog will be an excellent excuse to force you to go for a walk once or twice a day, stretch your legs and get a breath of fresh air. But other than that, dogs are pretty easy to handle. They won’t binge-eat like the rest of us, fight over what to watch or expect you to entertain them 24/7.
Most importantly, they’re family

Pets are extremely loyal and would do anything for their owners. The bond a pet has with their owners is irreplaceable and filled with unconditional love. So, how could a person betray that loyalty and trust and be willing to give them up and leave them stranded all alone?
